Who are the Merry One's?
In our family we are four at present, two people Björn and Yvonne, two lovely old welsh springer ladies, Tango and Sally. My husband and I have been “an item” since 1979 …and they lived happily ever after…

Up till the 8th of August Toy was also amongst us, but is since then a little angel. Toy (Merry One’s Female Attraction) was born in 1990, Tango (SU(u)CH Merry One’s Grace and Glory) in 1992 and Sally (SU(u)CH Merry One’s Into the Light) in 1994.

These 3 girls are half sisters, having the same mother Singo (Merry One’s Christmas Candy, from the well known “Christmas litter”)

We live in a house in the oldest area of Örebro, it is a very attractive area, close to town centre and also nature (lake and woods) where most of the houses are from early 1900.

We do not have kennels, the dogs live with us in the house as VIP´s, I mean VID´s, - very important dogs-! They have their own leather settee and sleep with us in bed, it is a bit crowded but…who cares? . They come with us everywhere even to work. Very spoilt little girls they are…

       Breeding
So why do we only have so few dogs, when we are breeders? Well, we have always moved forward very slowly, having only some one litter a year (since 1985). This way we have time with our puppy buyers and can help them out with support and advise whenever they need it.

Health, temperament and working ability are the most important things we consider when planning a new litter. Type, construction and looks are of course also taken into account as we must not lose type ending up with welshies looking like any spaniel. They are very different and so they should be. The dogs that we breed from have “free” hips and clear eye-test.

       Committee work
I (Yvonne) worked for 14 years in Örebro Kennel Club (some 3000 members) first with PR-issues and information, press secretary and the last 3 years in the show committee. Though these years were hard work, they were also very interesting and educational. Especially when working in the show committee, I got to know so many nice “doggy” people from all around the world

About the same time as I started working in the Kennel Club I was elected Chairman of the Swedish Welsh springer spaniel Club, where I stayed for a couple of years only to move forward to work with very interesting issues as breed adviser (health and breeding) together with Mrs Catarina Hultgren (kennel Trigger).
After some years it all became too much work so I then devoted my time to the Kennel Club. For 4 years I also worked in a local hunting club (welsh and springer).
We had very little administration and plenty of time with our dogs in the field.
It was really good fun

        Showing
We have been rather successful considering the small number of dogs we have bred over the year. Especially when you look at the consistency at big shows such as our annual Club Show.
Some years we have not been able to participate but when we have we have often been placed amongst the top 5. These particular shows always have, one or two breed specialists from England judging.
We have been placed 2 x 2nd best bitch/dog, 2 x 3rd, 4th once and in 1996 our most successful bitch to date “Tango” SU(u)CH Merry One’s Grace and Glory went all the way to the top and was Best in Show in 1996.

Now her daughter “Lisa” SU(u)CH Merry One’s Mandy Montgomery (named after our favourite golfer Colin Montgomery) has taken her mothers place as one of our top dogs after winning BIS several times, at really big shows. Our dear friends Christine and Bo Wilhelmsson own Lisa.

We were the first kennel to export a dog to a breeder in America. Mrs Susan Riese, kennel Statesman in USA, wanted a puppy after our Singo so after a lot of consideration we sent her little “Alex”,Merry One’s I’m a Statesman. He quickly became an American champion and has now has several offspring who also gained the title.

The most successful Merry One’s to date are:

How we started off with welsh
Our first welsh springer was called Sluggo (LP Seven Up) born in 1982.
He was a real gentleman in all respects. We first met his father Triggers Oliver who nearly kissed us to death when we came inside the door.
He was really lovely, charming and very handsome. When he sired his next litter we just had to get a puppy.

        Sluggo
Sluggo was kind and gentle towards everyone and a very keen and clever worker. He introduced me to obedience, tracking, hunting and eventually, when he was nine we started out with agility.
He did everything for me. His cool and solid disposition made him perfect to compete with, despite his mum being very nervous at times. He just said – it’s cool mom, I can handle this, just relax!
He was one of the most all-round qualified welshies in Sweden in his time and it was all due to his wonderful way to handle all kinds of situations. He always did his best even without me asking for it.

I wish everyone could own a gentle and bombproof welsh like him, one could not ask for more. He lived with us from puppy until he sadly passed away one month short of 14. He was so healthy all his life (he did not even have a record at the vets) up until the very day of his life.

         Lisa
When Sluggo was 2 years old, we got his litter sister Lisa (Loranga). She was to be re-housed and we went to pick her up as soon as we heard of it. So instead of getting a “brother” for Sluggo, as were our plans at the time, we got Lisa.

She was a very pretty little lady, very welshies in type, with a fantastically beautiful head and the typical very short wine leaf shaped ears. She also had a lot of freckles, which we love. We were not meant to breed from her, but our friend Carina Arvidsson, who owned Triggers (now she has kennel Freckles) thought she was so lovely and typical that she talked us into having our first litter, this was in 1985. Today we do not regret this.

Lisa had 3 litters and the one we treasure most is the “Christmas-litter” born on Christmas Eve 1986. Sire was Triggers Ceasar and we think the puppies got the very best of both parents.

        Singo

When we were fortunate enough to get Merry One’s Christmas Candy “Singo” back to us when she was nearly 4 she became the future for us.

She was a very nice welsh with lots of type and quality.
She had 3 litters and we kept a bitch out of every litter.

        Toy

In 1990 Merry One’s Female Attraction was born, her father being the lovely gentleman from England, Haregate Wild Sage.
“Toy” was a special character even when she was little, she always did her own thing and was the funniest dog I think we will ever have. We had the pleasure of having her in our family for nearly 13 years and she sadly became a little angel in the autumn of 2003.
We miss her, we miss the mischief, we miss the laughs, but we will meet again…
Read more about this very special lady on her own page and you will understand what we mean.

        Tango
In the spring of 1992 “Tango” SU(u)CH Merry One’s Grace and Glory was born as a result of Swedens first insemination in our breed. The father Int Ch Delkens Turul (imported from England to Finland) owned by Marjo Jaakkola was meant to sire our Lisas 3rd litter, but then they closed the borders to Finland, due to rabies. So that mating never came about.

So in 1992 we took our chance with Singo who had 5 puppies and we kept Tango. She was very successful winning a lot of big shows and the most memorable day was of course when she was Best in Show at our annual Club Show in 1996. She still does really well (at present she is going on for 12) at shows both on her own as a veteran but mostly with her progeny groups. She has been a very strong bitch really putting her stamp on her offspring.

We have also had the first litter on Tangos daughter “Lisa” the very successful SU(u)CH Merry One’s Mandy Montgomery, this was in 2002.

Tango is the loveliest most gentle and calm dog one can have. We always say that did we have only her; we would not even notice that we had a dog. She is so obedient and never ever any trouble (i.e. not a typical welsh at all…ha..ha) well the only trouble is she can lick you to death. I suppose she finds it more and more difficult to try to “lift” my face, as I get older, but she still has a go, every single morning. Meet Tango on her own page.

         Sally
In 1994 it was our SU(u)CH Merry One’s Into the Light, “Sally’s” turn to become one of the family. Her father was NUCH Vindhäxans Hemingway a dog that I like a lot. Sally was not meant to stay with us as we already had 3 dogs (which we thought was more than enough) but she had her own way of making this happen.
Every time I looked down at this litter (of 5) she just sat there staring at me her eyes saying – please keep me, please keep me!!! – I will make you proud!!

So after a while I just could not let her go, I was madly in love. But was “telling” the truth, she did make us proud, in many respects. She was just like our Sluggo, a lovely little worker, very keen, biddable and always kept close to me when in the field.

She was our second dog to gain awards at field trials, just like “uncle” Sluggo. She also did well in tracking and showing so keeping this girl was not so bad after all. Sally had 3 litters and it is now her daugther Sassa (Merry One´s Natural Beauty) , that will take on from here. Sally will tell you more on her own page.
